The Hinesville Area Arts Council is gearing up to host its’ 6th Annual Blues and BBQ event on Saturday, September 19, 2009, in downtown Hinesville. The event, which has had crowds as big as 1,500 people, has hosted legendary blues artists like Eddie Kirkland, Fat Back and the Groove Band and others.
This event draws people from this region, to include Jesup, Glennville, Brunswick and
Savannah. This year the committee has decided to go with Eric Culberson once again, an artist who has studied with the likes of Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and BB King. Culberson dazzles patrons at his downtown Savannah club with the fiery guitar work that has made him a rising star on the national blues scene.  Eddie Kirkland, who was born in Jamaica and raised in Alabama from the time he was two until he went off with the Sugar Girls Medicine show at twelve, is set to open for Culberson. Kirkland has worked with the likes of Ruth Brown, Little Richard, Ben King, Little Johnnie Taylor and many more greats. He tours forty-two weeks of the year earning him the title "Gypsy of the Blues".  Also this year a local talent, Brenda Meteyor, is being added as a pre-opener. The event will run from 4:00 pm until 11:00 pm. This family-oriented event is co-sponsored by the Hinesville Area Arts Council and Fort Stewart MWR. Other sponsors for this year’s event include the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority, The Heritage Bank, the Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Keep Liberty Beautiful and Woodmen of the World. The area's finest BBQ vendors begin selling their delicious BBQ at 5:00 pm, and the free live show begins at 6:00 pm. A beer garden will be on-site and the People’s Choice BBQ Contest will start at 4:00 pm.  For more information on the Hinesville Area Arts Council check out www.hinesvillearts.com.
